Wichaar.com provides news and views to Punjabis all around the world. It aims to address the lack of social and scientific literature and news in the Punjabi language. Presently, there are very few literary magazines in Punjabi. Unless this gap is filled neither the Punjabi nation nor their language and culture will sustain or prosper.
In East Punjab and Canada, there is a vibrant Punjabi press/media. However, this Punjabi media has two limitations. First, it does not venture into publishing serious material in humanities, social and natural sciences. Second, most of the written material is in Gurmukhi script that Pakistani Punjabis cannot read.
Wichhar.com is starting with an on-line journal of news and views in Shahmukhi script due to the total absence of readable material in this script and the very fact that Pakistani Punjabis are more than 60 percent of the total Punjabi community in the world. However, at a latter stage, a parallel Gurmukhi script journal will compliment the Shahmukhi one.
In order to not duplicate the existing Punjabi literary magazines, Wichar.com will not publish literature (poetry, short stories etc).Wichaar.com will concentrate on socio-political aspects of the society, focusing on creating historical and scientific material. The ultimate goal will be to establish a foundation for greater intellectual discourse in Punjabi language for all Punjabis, irrespective of their religion and nationality.
We hope you will join us in this effort and contribute any way possible.
